Hi!
Since I'm using my android smartphone with multitouch and with it these typical gestures I had an idea which might work out on a desktop PC as well. Sadly I'm not a good programmer and I wouldn't be able to code it. Minimising windows could be done by skidding windows down to the window bar. You grab the window with you mouse and nudge it down into the direction of the window bar. I guess that would be quite cool . Alternativetely we could create a "window container". So you can throw the window(s) to left or the right edge of the desktop and all the windows will be collected in a container from which you can grab back any window you like. I have no idea, if somebody already had this idea to but I just wanted to post it. What do you think? Can you imagine what I mean? Greets Jens |

Sounds good for a touch interface but I'm not too sure for a desktop. We already have aero snap implemented in 4.4 (drag window to top/left/right and it becomes maximised/leftmaximised/rightmaximised. Not quite sure what a window container would be useful for though.
However I think creating a fourth snap (the bottom edge) for shrinking to taskbar might be good.

Thanks for your reply!
I already use KDE 4.4 and the Aero snap is great. I already got used to it. But the question is why? Because it is a logical interaction with the window. I think adding a snap at the bottom might (!!) be unpractical, because you would have to move the window completely to the bottom before it will be minimised... The more logical movement would be throwing the window down with a certain acceleration... That could be done by holding the middle button of the mouse and then make a fast move downwards with the mouse... Do you have a more detailed idea with the snap at the bottom edge? |
