Menu Button for KWin using DbusMenu

Hello KDE forums!!

As some may already know there is a global menu bar in Kubuntu made by Aurelien Gateau using DbusMenu-Qt.
I believe there are plans to merge the patches in Qt and get plasma-menu-bar into KDE in the future.

A lot of users love the MacOS inspired Global Menubar, however a lot of users hate it. I believe this idea has a lot of the benefits of a global menubar, mainly space-saving.

My idea is to have a KWin button that when clicked on, shows the Application Menu exactly like the plasma-widget-menubar does when it is compact.

The idea also resembles the Opera/Firefox 4 Menu button in the Windows version of these Browsers.

I think this feature would be a great space saver and also very user-friendly.

Using gtk2 patches integration of gtk+ apps is also possible, however I do not know if Canonical and upstream GNOME want to merge these patches at some point in the future.
For applications not supporting exporting their menu via dbus, the button could be grayed out or removed.

Thanks!

Screenshot 1: Generic Menu Button in the upper left. Also Containing the window menu on the left and a separator.
Screenshot 2: Menu with the App Name instead of menu. Ideally the app name should only be in the button and not on the Deco.
P.S. Screenshots are just an idea for looks. A simple Button llike the close/maximize/minimize one could also do!:)

There has been a lot of discussion about this already on the mailing lists, although no firm conclusion last I heard. Part of the goal was to provide a fallback in the case of accidental pressing ctrl+m.

Could you provide some links to the mailing list discussions?

My idea is not about a global menu bar per se.

It is about a KWin implementation of plasma-widget-menubar.

Is it already on b.k.o?
