Sometimes you need to change file associations for a certain file type. The file associations settings dialog allows this, but it is quite inconvenient. I propose allowing users to change file associations from the dolphin "open with" menu.
Option 1: Add a shortcut to the specific file association in the current file association settings Pros: Should be easy to implement and almost no extra development Cons: Shows the entire file association dialog, when you only really want to change one association. Option 2: Add a shortcut to a small dialog that just changes the file associations for that file type. Pros: Easy to use and only shows what is necesary Cons: Small dialog needs to be separately maintained from usual file association settings. Option 3: Change the Open with menu to use radio buttons to set the default Pros: Very easy to use! Cons: User can accidentally change associations, clutters up UI slightly My preferred option is 2. The whole idea is to streamline working with files, without causing injury to the simplicity of the GUI. |
