I really like that KDE includes desktop recording, but it's obnoxious to say the least that the resulting videos are in cps (capseo?) format, something not even mplayer can play back without conversion.

It would be nice to see recordings saved to an immediately usable format, like Theora or Xvid or something.

Absolutely, I am sure the format that is used is technically great but I still have to convert it to a usuable format in MPlayer as even MPlayer won't play it in its original format.

There is an app called KRecordmydesktop which records desktop in ogv format.
But I do agree that if there is an recording option in desktop effects it should be useful.

It seems this plugin has been removed.
