I think it would be nice to have a tool to help configure areas of the background that would be used for specific types of file types, programs etc.
Example: * if I plug an USB key, the icon for this key will always be displayed on the top-right corner * if I download a PDF file it gets located along the bottom edge it would also be nice if these areas could be individually automatically re-arranged, or made "locked" Cheers, Zac

Please note that folder view does not support showing devices, and therefore that cannot be configured. The PDF file usecase is possible however.

I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing. By "background" I meant the Desktop background areas; where we usually have the desktop wallpaper. |

Well the thing is that KDE4 isn't made to do that. Plasma desktop does away with standard icons on the desktop idea.
Instead of icon for a newly pluged-in USB key on a desktop you have a plasmid called recently pluged-in devices. And instead of icons representing newly downloaded files you have folderview which can be set to filter so it shows only pdf or any other file. I would say that your idea is invalid. If you think different please explain.

My idea is invalid indeed. I shall upgrade to a newer version of KDE soon; sorry for the wasted time. Cheers, Zac |
