[Konsole] Command bookmarks

Sun Apr 05, 2009 7:05 pm
it could be very useful to have another bookmark feature for command lines i issue
along side the folder's bookmark menu.

their are some command lines actions i keep issuing over and over again which i keep in some kind of notepad, for now.

and even extra super cool to have an integration with :
http://www.commandlinefu.com/commands/browse

:-)

What about aliases? It's not really what you wish, but still. Those commands that you use over and over again ad are hard to remember or a lot to type in konsole, just make a alias in .bashrc and that's it.
Like instead of:
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install

You could make this alias:
Code: Select all
alias install='sudo apt-get install'

A bad example, but in Arch it makes a lot of sense I have instead of sudo pacman -S this alias:
Code: Select all
alias S='sudo pacman -S'

aliases are great i idea and i use them for little things (short commands) but not for a complicated (piped) command lines.

You can can also use ^R (Control-R) to search history.

So for long commands I press it and search for a part of it.

So to find my update command, I press ^R and type "auv" and it finds it for me:
Code: Select all
(reverse-i-search)`auv': emerge -auvDN @system @world --keep-going

And if it doesn't find the right one, just press ^R again. Or, if you want to edit it, press a right or left arrow.

All you need to be sure of is that history file is long enough and/or you use the command often.

How about a simple GUI for configuring alaises, integrated into Konsole?

Proudly dual-booting openSUSE 11.1 with KDE 4.3 and Windows Vista on a Toshiba A205-S4577 since July 2007.

Aliases are fine for commands, but I was thinking I'd really like the ability to right-click and enter a frequently-used password. The same feature could be used both ways (for commands too), except passwords need to be encrypted. Maybe store them in kwallet?

I've got several complex commands I use. Yes I can do this with an alias, but I need to run them on a remote server (after I have connected to it wit ssh). So an alias does not work. I used to have these commands as a bookmark but in the new Konsole they don't run.
