This is a bug/idea for this
>I feel dumb...
>Because I cannot figure out what button to click in this dialog:
Image
>ETA: I feel doubly dumb now. I accidentally burned debian twice, because when I wanted to burn the kubuntu cd for the kids' computer, I clicked on the kubuntu iso image in k3b's file manager, and it popped up the burn image dialog -- and somehow had remembered that last time I had burned the debian image (for the server, though I doubt k3b knew that). Result: 2 debian cd's, no kubuntu cd

>Ok, the dialog is confusing. Maybe I overdid the "KDE apps need choice and many many configuration options" a bit with this one. But it was actually a user request. :)
>Anyway, it could be improved. We already had proposals for a help button and better button texts like "manually saved settings" and "automatically saved settings". Someone please post a bug report so it can be discussed there. (I know, there are a lot of open bugs but these days I work them as a stack.)

What is this idea aimed towards? If you are proposing removal, please mention the same. If you wish to have it changed, please suggest the changes you will like to see.

Well, it's a brainstorm - we all try to find best ways for improving KDE.

I think this Action Dialog Settings dialog is a problem. And there so many opinions on it, that i think they must be brainstormed. That's why i posted it here...

By the way someone posted a bug on kde.org:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=196604

I would leave the dialog, but change it.
My first confusion with it is that i don't know what kind of settings it's talking about. I thought it's about GUI settings. So it should be saying that it's about media, write speed, etc. Also the title of the popping up question form is bad. I could understand what kind of Action Dialog it is talking about.

Second problem, as already mentioned in the link above, is that i don't understand do these 3 choices mean.

Let's discuss the suggestions.

So my suggestions.
1. Keep the question.
2. Rename the dialog title. My suggestion: "Action Dialog Settings" -> "Burn settings"
3. Put the buttons vertically and make a description of each choice on the right. Someone already commented on this:

I'm surprised by the comments here. I found this to be one of the most useful things any KDE program has ever done for me.

Default settings is, well, the default settings. The settings that are used by default when no other are available. (e.g. app first startup)

Saved settings are the settings you save in the settings dialog. They are the settings you've saved for future use.

Last used settings is also exactly what it says it is. If you enabled cd-text or set an explicit burn speed the last time then those will persist the next time if you select this. This is a useful way to modify settings as you go based on either the current batch or just evolution of how you do things over time. It is far less of a hassle than having to navigate the settings dialog every time you want to make a minor tweak.

When k3b asked me this for the first time the first thought through my head was "thank you k3b. That's an extremely useful question to ask, and it's awesome that you're giving me the choice."

Yes, but the developer himself (Sebastian Trueg) acknowledges the problem, and has asked to file a bug report instead.
Also, the current structure unfortunately does not support multiple suggestions per idea. Please see the guidelines box:

Please do not post multiple ideas in one thread as each topic can have only one voting counter which would serve the purpose for the first post in that topic.
Although, this practise is strongly discouraged, if a thread is found to be having two different ideas at say, post #1 and #6, forum staff will have to split the thread to create a separate topic starting from #6.

Marked as invalid.
