A lot of of newspapers and other sites like Youtube.com gives the readers the ability to give comments to the text or video. Quite often do the comments give another views that can be quite interesting to read. Some times one becomes involved in discussions with other commenters and if one wants to continue the discussion one has to revisit the page often to see if there are any answers. Sometimes ones would like to give a comment on a web page, but there is no comments section. What if all comments sections on the Webb were linked together? What if you could see in one place all your comments on different pages and if anyone has answered? Or if any of you friends have made made any comments on the Webb?
My idea is to make a plug-in for Konqueror that link a comments section for every Webb address. For every page you visit with Konqueror you should be able to make a comment for that particular page or see if any other Konqueror user has made a comment. Furthermore, this could be integrated with the KDE Social Desktop and then you could choose if only your friends are allowed to see your comments or all Konqueror users. Also, you should be able to choose if you want to see all commentaries or only those made by your friends. This way you don't have to read spam messages, which your friends are unlikely to write. The comment section could be a separate web page with a forum like forum.kde.org. The Konqueror plug-in just checks for every web page if there are a thread in the comment section page that is associated with the page the user is visiting. If the user wants to make a comment, a new thread is created. The plug-in should show a little icon somewhere on Konqueror (e.g. the lower bar) for every web page that has comments and the icon links to the thread. This system can be extended further with social desktop applet feeds of comments friends do on the web. Similar plug-ins could be made for other browsers (e.g. Firefox). The system requires nothing of the owners of the web pages that are commented. They will not be aware of the comments if they don't use a browser with the comments plug-in. |

There are two problems with this idea as I see it. First, where do you store the comments? They would either have to be stored on your computer and broadcast to everyone else using konqueror, which means it would only work when your computer and konqueror are both on, or it would have to be stored in a central server that someone will have to pay for and maintain. Second, I do not think konqueror has enough user base to push this sort of technology. Perhaps if a few other open-source web browsers got on the bandwagon it might be worthwhile, but if it is just konqueror I don't see it going anywhere. There just aren't enough people using it.

I understand that there is a project that tries to integrate a social desktop with KDE and, as far as I can see, a social desktop have to have a central server to be fully functional. My proposed comments system would be a part of the social desktop of KDE and it would then be natural to use the same servers as the social desktop.
I know the user base of Konqueror is not very big. However, the idea is not dependent on Konqueror, as it could be implemented as a plug-in in Firefox as well and thus reach 30 % of world market. Konqueror is in any case a good place to begin as it is a KDE project. |

Very simple solution:
Write a Konqueror-plugin for pligg, digg and similar services. |
