Do you mean empty space inside or outside the window? I guess the latter, but e.g. the window manager in Mac OS X does the former if I remember correctly (i.e., resize the window for optimal size).

I think he means that if you would have more than one window open. And one of them wouldn't fit all the gaps you would easily just double click on it and it would take all the space that is left.
Or at least that's what I think he means...
