After switching to KDE, my first mission was to place a translucent Konsole on my desktop, that filled most of the screen. I was very confused to see that the transparency level seemed to change when the focus of the window changed. The problem turned out to be that the shadow that was being painted onto the window was not just on the border, but filled the entire background of the window. So whenever the Konsole window had focus, it seemed to loose most of the transparent look because of the way the shadows were being drawn. Unfortunately to get the look I wanted, I had to turn off window shadows.

I suggest changing the way shadows are painted on windows, so that they are only applied to the borders of the window, and not fill the entire background of the window.

Is this valid? I'm not able to reproduce your behaviour... Maybe in trunk this doesn't happens anymore?

I am using KDE on Ubuntu 9.04 (kubuntu), if that is any help.
edit: plasma --version reports KDE 4.2.2

It looks like a bug, would you like to post a couple of screenshot ? Thanks.
