Actually phonon doesn't provide a 3daudio api. This means multimedia apps like amarok can't make use of 3d APIs (like Openal) to apply environmental audio to multimedia streams.
In order to make this there's a need to: 1) develop a openal sink for phonon and route sounds to that sink 2) develop a 3dapi that wraps openal calls when doing this, we could be able to listen songs with effects like "theater", "acoustic", "virtual surround" and so on ..., eventually choosing the appropriate effect authomatically inside the kde player we prefer (like eax console in windows for creative cards, but inside amarok, kaffeine, dragon player...). |

Phonon is just a compatibility layer for other media players like gstreamer and xine. It doesn't handle this sort of advanced task.
Man is the lowest-cost, 150-pound, nonlinear, all-purpose computer system which can be mass-produced by unskilled labor.
