Some little ideas for Kopete...

Sat Dec 26, 2009 3:14 pm
1) Why don't you make a textbox for writing status in the main window itself, like in Pidgin? In Pidgin, a user can change status in one click, without browsing any context menus. And the user won't remember that he is using a custom status, because the textbox is shown until he remove it. Also, the textbox contains a history of statuses. It is very comfortable, and I want to see these features in Kopete, too.

2) Kopete shows notifications "%username% is online", but doesn't show notifications "%username% is offline". It is bad: sometimes I write to a friend a lot of times before I notice that he is already offline. I think, Kopete must show notifications when somebody is going offline.

3) For some reason, my ICQ account disconnects very often, and each time Kopete shows me a small notification in a random part of screen. Less than a minute later, it connects to ICQ again, so for me this disconnections are not a very serious problem. But the notifications are! I want to be able to disable them in settings. And if I won;t disable them, I want to see them not in a random place, but in the standard place for KDE notfications, where messages are shown, for example.

4) Kopete doesn't save system messages in history, so it is not full and undestandable when you read it later. I think that a messenger must save not only text to the history, but also system messages like "The file is transfered", "User is offline", "User changed status to..." etc. I suppose that it is not very difficult to do, or is it?..

5) Setting a custom avatar to a user is very strange: I want just to click some "Browse" button and to choose an image for a user. But Kopete shows me some strange window with avatars first, then I add an image there, then I crop or don't crop it (I have never cropped an avatar in Kopete, I usually have ready images!), and finally choose it to be a user's avatar. Why don't you simplify this process?

Thank you, and sorry for bad English. I hope you have understood something... ;)

Only one solution (idea) per idea! Please break up your idea in four ideas.
