Currently the user must click four time to shutdown its computer.
I propose a modification of kickoff for shutdown with only one click plus a double click.
When the "Quit" tab is selected, the header of the tab is replaced by a button.
See the mockup: http://kde-look.org/CONTENT/content-pre1/120639-1.jpg

Usually when someone votes down it means that they don't think it a good idea, or not worth implementing. If people have something critical to say about it they usually do, but most of the time people only feel the need to say yes or no to a given item.

Technically it's only 3 clicks, but only if you wish to wait for 30 seconds :)

I dunno - shutting down is something I do perhaps once a week. I don't ever want to do it by accident. I remember trying out Win7 in VirtualBox and accidentally shutting down - the thing didn't even ask for a confirmation!

If somebody wants less clicks they can add the plasma widget.

If you want to shutdown computer quickly - try hotkeys...
ex: Ctrl+Shift+Alt+S -> halt -p

I don't like it because

1. It's not easily discoverable.
2. It's not consistent - you can't double click other tabs in Kickoff.
3. I don't see the problem. Here Kickoff switches tabs on hover by default (you can change this in the settings), so I need 3 clicks to shutdown/logout/etc.

The last click is to confirm the action - this can be turned off in System Settings -> Advanced -> Session Manager. Now you can shutdown with two clicks.

check out the Lock/logout plasmoid. Remove Lock from within the configuration and then you can use the plasmoid to stick a Logout button on your panel or desktop. Pressing the Logout button will prompt you to Restart/Shutdown/Logout. The plasmoid is misnamed and sort of hard to find out on your own. I was having the same issue with having so many clicks before I stumbled upon this setup.

only three cliks, but even if you hover the quit tab and click the confirmation dialog :-)

Anyway there exists the logout plasmoid to reduce clicks to "two" (or 1 if you wait the automatic confirmation)... even if the association "icon/action" is still confusing :-(
