New panel for Dolphin

My idea is to create a new panel for Dolphin as shown in the picture. This panel summarizes some features already found on some known file manager. The aim is to eliminate the use of certain software such as kickoff or lancelot (many users complain about it work).

Obviously be considered solely a mookup

P.s. sorry for the bad quality

As far as the applications bit, it can sort of be emulated by:

1. Enter the address applications:/ in the adress field of Dolphin.
2. Add it to the places sidebar.

The submenues and the applications don't show up in the sidebar but can be used as a sort-of "application launcher in the filemanager" work-around until/if this idea is incorporated.

You can use the folder panel to navigate the application menu. I just tried it out, it works really well. It even gives the folders the correct icons.

As for the idea, I would rather have three separate panels rather than 1 big one. I also don't see the difference between "Places" and "Favorites".

To summarize: i don't like it.

Dolphin is a file manager, and has a main target: manage files. You can add some extra related stuff, such as previews, metainfo, places/favorites (i agree with TheBlackCat, it's basically the same), searh bar... you are still managing files.

Want to launch apps? Use an app launcher.

In the end i think this is a basic rule followed by linux: use a set of small parts doing their job, instead of having monster apps combining any kind of stuff.

In other different scenarios that may make sense. For example, think about the K menu. There you want to have one entry point that allows you to do almost everything. If you duplicate this again and again you will have just the same stuff in different locations with a different view, that's it.

"Places" has the same functionality now implements in the Dolphin file manager, and "Favorites" would aim to see the applications, files and tags used most often allowing them faster access

I also had the same questions on integrating this feature in Dolphin (Dolphin is a file manager is and it should remain so), but it is also true that the various Dolphin panels can be seen as add-ons that allowing the extension of its core functionality. If you think about the UNIX philosophy where everything is a file, including applications (except they are executed), then the "law" would include their integration with the file manager.
Regarding the "redundancy" with the KDE menu, my intention is precisely to eliminate it, and I repeat, that what is currently available is not functional and many users complain of this fact.
