Virtual screens on desktop

Tue Apr 13, 2010 11:11 am
I have an wide screen monitor on 1920x1200 pixels.

I want to use it as two virtual screen; first normal screen as 1600x1200 for applications firefox, OO.org etc. and second screen as 320x1200 for plasma desktop widgets.

An application should be fit to 1600x1200 when i click full size, so always seems the plasma widgets that on the second screen.

There is one idea called Sidebar Containment.

Will it satisfy your needs or you would require something different?

Yes its similiar idea.

He wants to be an other plasma containment but I thought it the screen may be split like as layers for also applications.

For example, you can split the screen as two layer and positioned the Kopete on the right layer (like desktops). Other applications cannot cover and stay behind when you click full size them.

I think this task is interesting Kwin.

May be in the future, layers will use on 3D desktop environments.
