At startup, multimedia keys should reliably control sound as soon as sound can be played.
Let me use an example: I start up my laptop, but I'm sitting in a classroom. As the KDE start sound begins to play, I realize my sound is on. The quickest way to turn it off is to push the mute button. However, that button (like the volume control buttons) doesn't respond for another few seconds after the KDE sound is over. Realizing that, I use my touchpad to turn the sound off through the system tray. I've lost valuable seconds that my computer's been disturbing the class. And sometimes it happens that, after a few moments, kmix picks up one the input from the mute key and turns the sound back on - while the KDE sound still plays. Annoying! Conclusion: This isn't very reliable. While kmix does the job when mouse-controlled, it somehow doesn't react to multimedia keys right at startup. I request for this to be changed! ![]() |

I'd say this is a bug report rather than a feature request. Anyone agree/disagree?

I'm fine with either as long as that means it will be fixed even sooner. I'd be really happy.

I'd suggest posting it to bugs.kde.org

I'd like to put this on hold for now. It seems that since the last Update (4.4.4 or possibly even before), this has been working quite well on my machine. I've spent the last few days casually testing the multimedia keys' behavior and not come across any flaw so far. If this should become an issue again or should I notice anything, I will post a bug report.

Actually this doesn't work AFAIK, e.g. kmix doesn't start when alsa is restarted...
And there are some other issues with that, like if you have two sound cards (I have inner card and usb wireless headphones)... You can select main channel, but that will affect only one card, the other one still plays... |
