at least in my opinion, correct me if I'm wrong, the 'run command' interface's behavior is shaky.
When I start typing a command and press tab, I expect command interfaces to auto complete the text. When there are more possibilities I expect tab to go cycle through all possibilities. As is, KDE's interface will sometimes cycle through the buttons on the interface (?,X, settings,..) which is absolutely not useful, sometimes it cycles through the previews of the possibilities (the dropdown). I can't predict how it will behave and it never autocompletes the text of the command I started typing, even though it recognizes my command (I can see it in the dropdown, sometimes I can select it in the dropdown, but the text I typed remains unchanged). It is often needed to modify a formerly used command at the end. I always have to type in the whole command again, that's **** and renders the thing unusable. I remember using the feature in 3.5 very often, now I hate it. Am I using it wrong? |

seems to me you've got your krunner "user interface" set to "task oriented" when you want "command oriented"
krunner -> click wrench -> user interface -> command -> close |

no, I checked that, it's set to command oriented

doesn't seem right to me - for me in task manger tab cycles thru the interface, maybe you have corrupted rc file
try renaming (or deleting) ~/.kde4/share/config/krunnerrc and ~/.kde4/share/apps/krunner |

no, didn't help. When I start typing xter for example and press tab, the focus cycles through the krunner buttons. It won't auto complete to xterm. I don't think, this is actually wanted. And if it is, it's not well designed
sorry for the double post, ajax didn't work. |

In KRunner, the completion is done via End key.
That's one of the annoyances, but you can get used to that. Tab is usually used for focus switching, so it is the same way in KRunner. (some other KRunner interfaces are using Tab for completion ![]() |

did you try right clicking in the krunner window at the cursor, should open a drop down with "text completion" options which has various completion options. Maybe you're set to "none".
sorry, I just don't remember all this stuff that quickly |

tab works for me, not end |

thanks Ivan!
wasn't aware of that: setting text completion to 'dropdown' is very close to what I expect. But 2 minor annoyances persist: - It won't cycle to the beginning after the last entry. - It only auto completes entries I typed before. (if I never typed xterm, it won't find it until I typed the whole 'xterm') But I can live with that. |

It cycles to be beginning for me. This may be because I am using 4.5. Please either modify the idea to only include autocompletion or tell us you aren't going to so we can close the idea.

I think we can close that one for I just didn´t find the right setting. I´ll open another idea for the auto completion.
