Since the people usually place their notebook on usual places, like work desk or home desk it would be nice if the kde activity manager can detect through the webcam (via an image recognition of the background behind the user) the place where the notebook are and set the appropriate activity.

Example: I'm at work and I'm using the work-activity,then I suspend my notebook and I'll resume it at home at this point the new environment should be detected and the activity changed to entertainment-activity for example

I'll approve the idea, but I am not sure it is feasible. Although humans do not notice it, over the course of the day there are massive changes to a given scene. Huge changes in colors, shadow moving, appearing, and disappearing, people walking by, and so. These are all things that go largely unnoticed by people, but are extremely difficult for computers to deal with.

Man is the lowest-cost, 150-pound, nonlinear, all-purpose computer system which can be mass-produced by unskilled labor.

I think there are plans to make activities location aware, but if (I remember correctly) it'll use other information such as which network you use.

I think there are more definite information resources for that purpose (of changing activities automatically).

Just imagine you put your laptop at a (significantly) different angle on your desk - the background changes to something unfamiliar and automatically switches you from your work activity to the general one, breaking your concentration ...

I think being GPS/location/network aware would be better suited for activities. Though for uses for the webcam can be seen for different purposes on Ubuntu's little test a few weeks ago on fullscreening apps and stuff.
