Add Export feature to Kmail

Mon Jan 10, 2011 4:32 pm
Running Kubuntu Maverick Meerkat 10.10 (2.6.35-24-generic i686 (32 bit))
Running Kontact 4.4.9
Running Kmail 4.4.9

I like Kmail. It's the only email program I use. However, it has no feature to export emails (messages and/or folders) so you can import same into another email client. Nearly all other email programs have this ability.

Please add an Export feature to Kmail.

Sorry, what do you mean by export into another email client? Email clients both connect to the same POP or IMAP server, and thus messages should be transferred from server to server, not client to client.

That would be true if one opted to keep messages on the server - I don't, and many others don't as well - thus, our emails are removed from the POP/IMAP server when we access our email.

Yes, if you use POP to download the email, then the email is now stored on your own computer either as an mbox file or maildir. You will have to point your new client to use the same mbox file. Please ask / search around on where these are stored or search if you can select specific local mbox on the other client.
