A faster 2d composite window manager.

Why not a xfwm4 writed in qt.

I test to use xfwm4(4.8 with composite) instead of kwin(ubuntu and mepis), It was really fast, I get 3 and half more with glxgears.

The desktop was very responsive, stable. Plasma looks better than kwin or compiz.

I propose that xfwm4(in qt if that posible) will be the default 2d window manager, and kwin the 3d.

I test with openbox, and other wm, but the best is xfwm4.

This solution is like actual gnome with metacity for 2d and compiz for 3d.

I am working a lot with KDE. One of my projects uses realtime applications running using SCHED_FIFO. I never had problems with that but with kwin since KDE4 there is a painful impact on real time behaviour. So I would prefer to have an alternative.

Hi schabe68, install xfwm4 and xfce4-settings-manager.

with alt f2 type xfwm4 --replace.

excute xfce4-settings-manager and activate composite.

If you want you can add xfwm4 --replace to the kde startup.

kwin has a lot of features besides just compositing the xfce lacks.

You may be interested on eggwb:

The project is quite young and there is no compositing yet, but it's quite interesting because it (will) offer a lightweight Qt window manager: kwin may have lots of cool and interesting features, but not all people need them... a lighter alternative is really welcomed.

There is already a solution for an alternate window manager intergration. I posted something on an seperate topic. Perhaps one of you guys knows how to get the feature running.

Here is the link to the topic. There are 2 links (English and German) which contain a howto but that doesn't work anymore:
