Hi,

and it happens to me again and again: Left - > Computers switch
off - > solemn gong and then I go to bed. In the morning I am
surprised that my PC is still running.

Oh so, I forgot to confirm a breaking off of an active TTY meeting
with an OK.

Question: It must be nevertheless somehow possible to switch this
penetrating question off. I am anyway alone at my PC.

Can I be safe that after the solemn gong without further ado my
PC is really off?

Thanks for advice.
Regards,
Werner.

PS.: I have opensuse 11.4 with KDE-4.6.00

The following snippet should do it - just so that it doesn't happen to you again.

Code: Select all
sudo shutdown -h -P now

There a other options, too. You could example tell it when to shut down. For further info check
Code: Select all
man shutdown

Oh, and you could insert it into your ~.bashrc file with a convenient alias.

Code: Select all
alias shutdownnow='sudo shutdown -h -P now'

in your ~/.bashrc, then source ~/.bashrc or relogin.
