If you reconsider it, does not reject it. As we (as a users) don't just need technology to change, but sometimes we need to change our own habits.
We need information what Windows users want to get done. And then find out what is problem if they can not get done what they want. Like in today, at 2011, we still have not got away from habit to check disk space. At somepoint, people just run out of space if they store lots of huge files (home videos, games etc). When comparing to todays computers to original PC, we have simply lost everything how technology has evolved. Not more than 20 years ago 1991 a 2.5" 100MB drive was manufactured. Today, 100MB is nothing. But then, you could store to it more used data than what people could store today to 4 terabyte. Example the book what I red yesterday what was about PC softwares. I just couldn't stop laughing when I red that program what was in use, toke 10 kilobytes RAM when in background and it was a lot then. The program what it was about, had more features than what today example Dolphin has. It was faster than filemanagers today, it was even easier to use, with mouse. The difference just was that today people do not need to actually know anything about computers to do tasks with it. And most even believe they know well how to use computer, even that they don't know the technology. And most computer users don't even know what they can do with computers. For them it is just about google, facebook, games, MS office or photoshop. Very limited knowledge of the capabilities what todays computers could offer. And not even sale people or most computer engineers know what are the possibilities. So we need people who brings up the ideas and starts discussions in forums. |

I won't reject fri. I am of the opinion that technology should not make the user feel it. In short the casual user need not know what runs in the background. At the same time, should be easy for those who are interested to know the details.
May be apple doesn't go with the open source philosophy but I just admire the way they transformed unix into mac. |

Apple goes partially with Open Source philosophy, they have open documents for usability studies and guidelines.
They have 100% open source operating system and even most of platforms, servers and libraries in OS X and iOS are 100% Open Source as well. Only key softwares are closed source. Even that software can be made so user does not "feel" it (I take it so that user does not need to start thinking how thing need to be done), it still need to be in such format that user understands what is happening so user can learn and use gathered knowledge in future with all use cases of new software and even when planning to buy new technologies. The Windows "My Computer" habit is being moved away in next Windows ("Windows 8") and it is just something what will someway draft people away from Windows to alternatives and they will find out different desktops and apps and they need to make a choice of all them. At that point we come to situation where very old habits need to be learned off and it simply means, people really need to learn technology if they want to make best choice for them. |
