nothing less than an urgent proposition to every good qt, gml or c coder to create a nice alternative to apples "iBooks Author" software.
it depends on you to prevent millions of students from vendor lock-in and flatten the ground for k/ubuntu tablets in school ___________________ nichts weiter als ein dringender vorschlag für den geneigten qt qml c schreiber eine echt gute alternative zu "iBooks author" zu schaffen.. nur so können freie k/ubuntu tablets die schulen erobern und millionen von schülern vor dem finalen vendor lock-in geschützt werden. DANKE! ___________________________________ What does this Application? : kBooks Author should be a tool for "educators and smaller publishers to create their own books".Many aspects of a document may be edited in WYSIWYG fashion, including text, fonts, colors, foreground and background images, interactive widgets, and charts. Tables of contents and glossaries may be managed with some automation. I am talking of the "powerpoint" for eBooks (pdf)

Please describe how such an application would work, without referring to iBooks.

I don't know iBook "Author", but I do know calibre ebook management software. Is that what you mean?
Closing this idea until more specific information is added.

I see, have you checked out LyX (based upon LaTeX)? It seems to do exactly what you described.

i know calibre.. and its really good... but as it's for managment of ebooks not creation of ebooks..
lyX is fine - i does what i described.. but my konsole window does what dolphin does too (even more).. and konsole is nothing like dolphin ^^ (i know - bad comparison) have you looked at ibooks author? it's so simple that people will actually use it

OK - you will have to be much more specific, then.
LyX, for example is a WYMIWYG and I believe dead easy to use with instant professional results. Your idea asks for a WYSIWYG but doesn't mention anything special that separates it from what the Calligra Suite is already trying to offer. Please rethink your idea with specific features or if possible mockups so it's easier for people to understand who haven't seen iBooks Author.

man.. there's no need for mockups .. there are plenty of screenshots of ibooks author out there..
i just heard about it and thought.. oh boy - they want to conquer schools with this proprietary **** and bind every author to selling his book over itunes .. i know apple, i know they will succeed somehow and there is no serious alternative out there.. i see a deep connection between schools and foss .. so i think this kind of software is needed.. http://www.apple.com/ibooks-author/ it is a stupid to generic idea.. close it .. i'll concentrate on calligra suite wich is heavily developed right now and see what they've got and maybe suggest a view things.. (and make mokups )
