File Management Improvements

Sat Mar 10, 2012 9:12 pm
During file copy/move operations :
When the disk is full, or some kind of error occurs, there are 3 buttons in the dialog : Skip, Skip All, Abort
-> Add a Retry button.
When files are already being copied, starting a new copy operation will happen in parallel with the previous one.
-> Launch a dialog with a Queue option.

Cheers

File Management Improvements

I think the queue option is a good idea, and can be improoved to check if the destination of multiple copies/move is the same, then automatically enqueue the second operation.

With this you can reduce disk defragmentation on some filesystems, device stress on other, and got a better throughput in general.

I've been searching for this for a long time.
I've used also some external program like "ultracopier", but have a simple method to queue the copy operation is, in my opinion, indispensable.
At least a simple queueing... a system with optimization based on source/destination to allow parallelism and a priority system would be even better, bBut for now I suggest to focus on adding a simple queueing system.

I've tried to search on google and this is quite a common request, lot of people are asking for this function.

Thumbs up for this improvement!

Now that Ultracopier has matured a lot... I would like to see it integrated in to KDE or atleast a KDE native support for Ultracopier.

It makes file copy/move mechanism very easy and pleasant when we are working with large amounts of data trasnsfer with large number of files and folders...

These are actually two brainstorm ideas. I've submitted the first one to the bug tracker too: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=328710
