Hi guys!
Two things that are really missing in system settings: - when clicking on "Hardware" it would surely be nice to have an overview to hardware that is working in the computer (e.g. processor with architecture, RAM, graphics card, harddrive, network cards, motherboard). Basically that are all things that are shown by "lshw", but this would be a great place (the user expects it here!!!) to centrally show the computer's hardware (and not by installing extra tools). - it is a little bit absurd to have the keyboard shortcuts shown under "keyboard and mouse", I think having them under "Input Actions" is the right place (or not ???)

Yes.
I agree that it's confusing, though for my money the solution is to put "Input Actions" as a subcategory under "Keyboard & Mouse". |

I remember such a KDE-Hardwarelist at Qt Labs. But I do not find the link anymore.

There is KInfoCenter for that.
Though it *might* make sens to integrate it into System settings.

It would just involve changing the "X-KDE-Parentapp" in the desktop file of the KInfoCenter Information module to System Settings, then it would be displayed in System Settings.

Or maybe kde4 could have one single total super configuration tool for everything?
Sounds stupid, but.... Fact: Have you ever used eclipse (zend)? eclipse's settings dialog contains many options, but "live search" helps users to find necessary component. In comparison kde system settings dialog, eclipse shows matching submenu entries too, that very useful. Idea: By now system setting dialog offers us only "common" and "advanced" tabs, but why not to have some sort of "All" or "other" tabs? The system settings could contain more generic settings like my music folder so Amarok/ vlc/Songbird etc could read this setting directly (and save some time for me). Also it could have some sort of plugin-like support for any application (like firefox, OOo, kTorrent etc) (at least for native KDE apps). This would be very handy if you need to fix somebodies else PC. Its easier to find stuff in one place than in 100 |

With the german version of KDE I have the problem that i cannot find a menu item like "input action" or something like a german companion piece to it. Do you mean the second keyboard icon? I don't see any sense in this point, perhaps "shortcuts" in English, there I can only check an "KMenuEdit" without any description...

KControl 4 ( currently in playground ) was designed using a plugin system for the views, which places the views in complete control of how the Menu is displayed. This could even be (ab)used by distributions to integrate their tools.

Yes, it can be used. But by using a standard tool (e.g. the hardware list), directly integrated by default, we can accomplish a sort of entity. |

I think Input actions should be seprate from "keyboard & mouse" because not all input actions are from keyboard and mouse. Some people have infa-red remotes, Wii-remotes etc which could be configured in Input-Actions. Input actions could cover shortcuts and actions from allsorts of devices. |

I think the solution to that would be to have a section for "input devices (keyboard, mouse, etc.)" and include keyboard, mouse, input actions, lirc, and others in there.

I agree. Include multi-touch trackpads and wacom tablets as well.

I agree that Kinfocenter should be accessible from System Settings.

Why not to put simple shortcut to input devices from keyboard and mouse (simple as eclipse does)? |
