I use Kmail against gmail with IMAP. Kmail could look at the emails in my inbox and suggest the adresses as I type when composing a new email.

I think it wold be better if kmail would scan all mails for email addresses and store them for the future use when suggesting addresses. Basically the same as gmail does. Its is very handy, when you have to write to some one you received email a year ago ad have the email deleted, but know some part of email e.g. the email you need is thomas.anderson@matrix.com, and you remember only the "matrix" part :D

I agree with Lukas on this one. This is especially true when you use lots of folders to store your email, leaving only a dozen or so emails in your inbox. One problem however - this storing of email addresses should only be done after the mails have been filtered, to make sure you're not storing the From: address of every spam out there.

Good point. Adding to this manually marking emails as spam suppose to remove emails in that message from database.

I hate to think what size my addressbook would become if this were implemented. There is already Recent Addresses, and the button to add addresses to your addressbook, so keeping the ones you may need again is easy. I certainly don't want every legitimate list poster added to my addressbook never mind every spammer on the planet.

It shouldn't go in the adressbook, just the adresses should be suggested as one type in the adressfield...

I can imagine a separate address book for just this function - "cache" or, "Reply addresses", or something like that, that would be hidden by default in KContactManager (I think the new one is called...). Of course, this would be an Akonadi address book by default...

Using Akonadi integration of Google Contacts, it should be possible to have all your gmail addresses suggested when you compose a new mail.
