Hi all,

First thing first: I *love* KDE 4 (I use it and love it since 4.0)

Here I am to propose something that might be cool to have, other than handy:

Today I played a lot with Plasma and Kwin by changing:

- wallpapers (I also used the wallpaper slideshow and found it awesome).
- icons
- colour schemes
- put this or that plasmoid on the desktop or activities
- use folder view or classical desktop (still KDE 4.2.1 here)
- change Plasma themes
- set this or that effect in Kwin

While doing this I thought that it would have been good to have the chance to save one or the other combinations in a profile without the need to write them down or take snapshots to save the cool things for future references.

In System Settings we already have the possibility to customize and save the "Desktop Theme Details". So here I propose to implement something likely for the whole thing in a "Graphical Profile" (or to expand "Desktop Theme Details" to include the following) which would include settings for things in use to save:

- icons theme
- colour schemes
- wallpaper (or slideshow)
- plasma theme
- active plasmoids (per single desktop or activity)
- active folder view, desktop (and whatever goodies from KDE 4.3 to come)
- whatever else might be good to have in this

This would be a good single click "switch for my favourite in this moment please" kind of thing without the need to go and look for that screenshot (or basket note) to resuscitate this or that configuration (by obviously spending some time for it).

Nonetheless this could be then be used in the future of some kind "geolocated profile" to have your KDE 4 automagically set for everywhere you are.

So, is it cool enough?

So like desktop themes in Windows 9x, 5.x, 6.1 and themes KDE3? I think this has been discussed elsewhere, regardless its a much-needed feature.

Proudly dual-booting openSUSE 11.1 with KDE 4.3 and Windows Vista on a Toshiba A205-S4577 since July 2007.

Well yes.... it's not an exclusive I know. I've been searching for "profile" in brainstorm and didn't return any relevant topics before I posted.

Anyway it is not only about themes. those are kind of already available if you think of it. We've got plasma themes, we've got icon themes and KDE themes.

My proposal is not to duplicate themes or to glob them in one unique theme file. It is about having a *profile* that you can save and reuse for you particular "desktop mood" in one click only when you feel like. Without having to "loose time" in reconfiguring it one piece at the time.

This might render the idea.

ps: thanks for vote.

This issue on Bugzilla looks similar:

I thought it looked more like something I posted a while ago, but never got any attention: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=170832

Hi Madman, yes that is it!! I didn't search in the bug tracker before posting, my fault.
Hope that this idea gets more attention (both on the bug tracker and votes here) and one day will get implemented. *finger crossed*.

cheers

Madman, can you update your bug and include link to this thread?

hey, all.

i'm not promising this BUT:

since i want to learn C++ i'm thinking about making this feature myself.

i start here with few questions:

which components (other than C++, Qt , KDE) and configuration files should i consider/know/work with to make this possible?

who do i contact if i ever manage to do it?

do you like the name "Moods" or "KDE Profiler" ?

please leave a comment with any idea/suggestion you might have.

thanks
