As HAL is now configuring touchpads, we need an easy way to configure it to taste. The new touchfreeze simply doesnt have the features.
the latest version of qsynaptics seems to work without any problems with synaptics driver 1.1.0 (the latest version) eventhough qsynaptics hasnt had an update in 1.5 years! http://qsynaptics.sourceforge.net/

yeah,a synaptic configuring tool is what KDE is missing!

I really can't stand that touchfreeze doesn't disable tap-to-click, ksynaptics did it just fine. A KDE4 port would be great!

Good idea. But I think ideally this would be part of the mouse & keyboard settings module rather than a standalone program.

The synaptics driver maintainer for my distra said that it would be to much hassly converting k/qsynaptics but rather start from scratch using xinput, as synclient will be deprecated in the future anyway, and writing something with xinput should be fairly trivial, done in a few freedays.....sigh if only I could...

@TheBlackCat: Maybe the configuration should be done in system settings, but I think there shoud be a plasmoid to at least easily enable/disable the touchpad, for when one is using an external mouse.

+1 for a synaptic config-tool
It should be under "Keyboard & Mouse" |

Control of that horrendous "tap to click" is an absolute necessity in any form. KDE is nearly useless on netbooks (to novices, that is) without this control.
I'll definitely give a +1 for this suggestion. |

And stuff like the scroll behavior... With the option to use multi finger some migth still prefer the scrolling in the edges etc... or both?

yay - glad to see this topic resurfacing.
I'm also a fan of this becoming part of the KDE control panels rather than a standalone app. Why - its just where I expect to find it. I have manually configured two finger vertical scroll, two finger tap to right-click and *need* disable tapping while typing. It is currently way to hard to do all this - gnome or KDE. |

I have no idea how this disable tapping when typing might work but the rest should be very easy considering the useability of synclient. the policy file to change this stuff permanent simply needs to contain the same variables. easy stuff...
but as I have no clue about desgin stuff and how to implement this in general I think I would be nicer if I talk a little less

Does that idea include a "disable touchpad while typing" function like this one?

It should have all the functions k/q/gsynaptics have |

I'm totally with TheBlackCat on this one. Although a plasmoid might be useful as an interrim "quick fix" it should go in the system mouse and keyboard settings control panel.
Things like multi-finger scrolling and disable tapping while typing massivly increase the usability of touchpad based systems and earn lots of user gratitude points. Many people have requested this capability in many separate posts. Perhaps its time there was some active recrruiting.
