I had a brilliant idea... (b)
why don't add this option in dolphin like in konqueror? I really love to see dolphin opened IMMEDIATELY (about 0m0.150s vs 0m0.280s, :shade: these are averages) when a dolphin window is already opened...

Yeah +1!
It's really stupid to create seperate instances for each folder. opened via Plasma or something like that.
It's the same with Web-Browsing: I have to wait some time after clicking a link in another application, because a Konqueror instance is opened.

Just installed KDE 4.2.3, new averages:

First Run: 0m0.200s (no dolphin windows already opened)
Second Run: 0m0.080s (at least one dolphin window opened)

WOW

N.B.: this just to stay in the first page ;-)

This should be very optional and very not default. Or we would end up with a 5 minutes startup time because everything should preload -- just like that other OS.

You could simply put "konqueror --preload" in den autostart packen. ;)
Werde ich jetzt machen.

Absolutely yes, just like in konqueror. What has always attracted me is the flexibility of the KDE.

In this particular case, I think, we are talking to add about 0m0.200s at our startup.

Why, if preloading would take apps from default session - it wount take 5 mins :)

But starting to load only then starting to type password, it stupid.
Especially for 1 users PCs preloading could start as soon as KDM starts, so if i go to make some coffee while booting, when I came back everything would be preloded.

To run some script just after KDM start??

I'd like this feature too, but I'd like it as an option and not as a default.

But I'd like a lot more an even lighter/faster dolphin, so we don't need any preload, since a really small application will anyway start really fast, even without preload.

bye

It'd be pretty simple:
Add a --preload option to Dolphin like in Konqueror.
Okay, maybe there could also be a checkbox to add it to the autostart.

It should not be default, there are many people using other file managers (konqueror, krusader...) all of them should be preloaded? That seems wasting time. On the other side, if it is not the default, an instance of the preferred file manager can be preloaded if the user specifies it explicity in the configuration, that is okay to me

Anyway, I dont think it is so important, if you simply shutdown the system with a dolphin window opened, the session manager will open it for you at the start up

Added "of Dolphin" to the title since [Dolphin] was removed when Brainstorm switched to the new tag system.

I submitted this wish two years ago, but I'm starting to think not many other people want it. I noticed that Thunar has a "daemon" setting, and it loads instantly in XFCE. Other operating systems (OS X and Windows) also have a similar features.
