With the audiocd kio slave you get a list of the files on a cd in various formats. You can then drag those files to your hard drive to rip them.

I think having this feature in the videodvd kioslave would be very useful. You could have a list of the various titles displayed as raw mpeg2 format videos like how the audiocd displays the tracks as raw wav files. You would also have folders for various file formats, the chapters, the subtitles, and the audio. You just drag and drop the folder you want to your hard drive and it rips it for you.

I think this would be a natural extension of how things are done in the audiocd kio slave. There would have to be a configuration, probably in system settings, to set the settings for the various formats. But I think this is much more natural then having to go through some external ripping program.

Nice :) Vote up

I don't know how exactly kio works, but this feature could be a very nice tool to upload videos to ipods, PSPs smartphones etc :D

Just so you know: K3b has a VideoDVD KIO slave. For now it "only" provides copying of the plain vob files with on-the-fly decryption. Thus, you see the same files you see when mounting the DVD but you can copy them, too.

Using K3b's own DVD ripping job it should be fairly easy to extend the KIO slave to support ripping to avi.

I don't think it should be just avi. ogm, mkv, and mp4 are also very popular container formats, and have major advantages over avi.

oh, I would be delighted if someone would add support for more than avi (mpeg4) to K3b. ;)

I'd like it if inserting an audio CD/video DVD would give the option, "Open in Dolphin" in the New Device plasmoid. That would be far superior to the current situation, methinks (where the only options available are only available when you have K3b alpha installed).

A bit OT, but what's with mp3 support in audiocd:/ kioslave? I dont see that in Mandriva, is this a distro-specific problem?

Silly Me. LAME wasn't installed.

So, back2topic: I like this Idea very much, would be really useful for ripping video dvds without fiddling around with parameters, different programs etc.
