Old habits die hard and most of us find ourselves double-clicking on files from time to time. If KDE is configured (as it is by default) to open with a single click then this can cause dolphin (and other?) to open the same file twice. Not only is this annoying it is potentially confusing and slows down file opening.
When configured for single click, double click on a file is not meaningful in any way. It has no other default binding. For this reason I suggest that by default, applications like dolphin should simply treat a double click on a file as a single click. Think of it as ignoring the second click or "de-bouncing" if you like - whatever helps. But please lets do it...

Why don't you configure dolphin to use double click? That is one of the first things I did.

Ha ha... good for you. But I certainly don't want to start a debate on whether single or double click should be the default kde feel! My post is really about the default behaviour being a source of frustration (and perhaps a bit broken). I'm thinking I might just post it as a bug. Especially as none of the nay-sayers have extended themselves to provide an explanation for their thinking. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Dude... it's not Windows. If you don't like how it behaves, change it. That's what KDE's like. -.-

I think the point made here is valid. Someone may prefer single-click, but when switching operating systems sometimes take a little bit of time to re-adjust to a single-click system. Having the system detect accidental double-click (clicking twice within a certain time period) and automatically ignore the second click is a very good idea in my opinion. Just because you prefer single click does not mean you always have the opportunity to use it when on someone elses' computer. I very much prefer single-click, but nobody in my family does so after using one of their computers for a while I occasionally double click when I don't mean to.
Man is the lowest-cost, 150-pound, nonlinear, all-purpose computer system which can be mass-produced by unskilled labor.

It can be achieved by mouse action similar do plasma. Default configuration should be open on one click and nothing for double click. If user will, it may configure it to open file both on one and on two click.

I've seen many people on mac and KDE systems that are addicted to double clicking EVERYthing. It's bad to let people get used to it, because they never learn.

Ah, double-clicking on menus and buttons. I know such Mac-users.
But never the less this feature would be very useful for everybody who uses other systems, too, but prefers the single-click-method. |

I personally like the idea. Accidental double-clicks can occur and it happens all the time when my friends use my laptop

The original idea was good, just make it default single click, but if you double click it just opens one and not two. Most users default action wasn't to open the same program or folder twice, usually, and they could just click again a second later.
