Seconded this is an essential feature. It's one of the very few missing features which is keeping me on KDE 3.x. I'd like to upgrade, but i'm not prepared to loose the hide panel button. I would really like to see this implemented in KDE 4 so that it functions exactly the same as in KDE 3. I don't personally care if it looks ugly, functionality is far more important than appearances.
Autohide just doesn't cut it, it can't read my mind to determine when I do and don't want the panel visible. |

Reviving this thread to make the point that this minor feature is really important to some of us. Any chance of it ever happening ?

I use TogglePanel widget.
It is not exactly KDE-3-style hide button, but a widget which acts as 'external' "Hide Panel" button for particular panel: http://websvn.kde.org/playground/base/p ... gglepanel/ It seems as it is 'unofficial' solution. Maybe, that is why it is not built for any major distribution except Mandriva. It is a little bit rough, but it works fine for me on both KDE 4.4.* and KDE 4.5.0. And you can set keyboard shortcuts to toggle hiding. If you are Mandriva user you can get it here: http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/ ... 6.rpm.html And luckily that rpm works on my openSUSE 11.2 too. Here is a little tutorial about this panel: http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get- ... ution.html |
