I think a key configuration module missing from system settings is a module where you can configure your system's firewall. Linux has essentially built-in firewall support, as does windows and I assume mac does as well. But as far as I am aware there is no good, integrated way to configure it under KDE 4.

I wasn't aware that Linux has built-in firewall support. opeSUSE for one has isolated it to their own YAST application.
But if it can be platform neutrally, I think I'd be great.

That one is "only" for configuring the firewall. It's lower-level system-software that's doing the real job.

Hi all, I agree on this point.
There is no clear indication in KDE control center, as to the existence of a firewall, which ports are open, and how to open/close other ones. I tried using nmap since it seems to be the reference tool, but frankly I'm a bit lost. A GUI like in Mandriva (or openSuse) would be much appreciated. Note that a KDE app exists in KDE-Look : UFW Kcontrol Module. But there is only the source there, not very user friendly. Thanks for reading, cheers! |
