there is a very small "feature" i like very much about the windows volume control.. it makes a noice when you are changing the volume and you can hear how much you have already increased or lowered the volume..
with kmix you need another (sound making) app running to know more about the volume level..

i found this behavior rather annoying in windows.
but if you have to do it, how about a compromise: only have kmix make a noise if there is no sound output. and don't make any noise when using the scroll wheel. |

thats no compromise.. thats an enhancement... good idea!
you would not get any idea of the system volume though... if amarok or kaffeine have their own volume turned down.. (so the "dingding" sound of kmix should have three options.. "on" "intelligent" "off")

So, why exactly should someone turn the noise off? Maybe because he doesn't want to get disturbed by it? Yeah, in this case "mute" is the better action. I don't see why this should be optional.

right... with the mute option "off" would be redundant..

It would probably be easiest to just make a kmix notification that the volume has changed. As with all notifications, it can have a sound associated with it (which would be the noise in question) that would play whenever the volume is changed, but people who don't want it can turn it off or change it just like they can with any other notification. So basically you get a sound and the ability to turn it off essentially for free.

I don't mind if its there to turn it on/off if you need it. But There is no way I want to up the volume and have some annoying click or what ever noise while I'm trying to listen too music movie etc. If its going up or down you'll hear it. .

Even when there are no sounds playing I would rather it *not* make a sound. Sometimes one wishes to adjust the volume *before* he starts playing sounds, and for good reason (e.g. so that others aren't disturbed by loud music).
Ideally there should be a configuration option to allow, or not allow, audio feedback. |

I've ever disliked that "feature" in windows... -1 for me

Options. As I always say, Linux is just that. Options. IMHO, the best approach is that of Fifoxtasy. No sound when we use the scroll, (since most probably we already hear something), make a sound when we release the button and have a checkbox to enable/disable that. Since this could be new feature, by default, it should be off. Let the "Top of the day" educate users.
