KDE Appearance Themes

Tue Mar 02, 2010 5:05 am
A KDE Appearance Theme will comprise of sub themes for Style, Color etc.

For eg. KDE Appearance Theme "Air" will have -
- Style Theme - Oxygen
- Workspace Theme - Air
- Color Theme - Oxygen
- Icon Theme - Oxygen
- Font Theme - Air (not existing right now)
- Windows Theme - Oxygen
- Splash Theme - Air
- Emoticons Theme - Oxygen
- Cursor Theme - Oxygen White
- Desktop Theme - Air (not existing right now)
- Panel Theme - Air (not existing right now)
- Menu Theme - Kickoff

There should be provision of customizing KDE Appearance Theme and also option for saving as new theme.

A KDE Appearance Theme will have following sub themes -

01. Style Themes (There should be option to save as new theme and more configuration options like QTCurve)
02. Workspace Themes (Move option of "Desktop Theme Details" (from advanced options) to here and make customization options more flexible than just selecting from other themes)
03. Color Themes
04. Icon Themes (Currently we cannot customize icon themes. There should be option to customize and save as new theme)
05. Font Themes (There should be option to customize and save as new theme)
06. Windows Themes (We should be able to select icons for button and option to save as new theme)
07. Splash Themes (There should be option to customize and save as new theme)
08. Emoticons Themes (There should be option to customize and save as new theme)
09. Cursor Themes (It should be moved to Appearance Settings and there should be option to customize and save as new theme)
10. Desktop Themes (This will have all the options of "Desktop Activity Settings" plus screensaver settings and there should be option to customize and save as new theme)
11. Panel Themes (This will have all the options of panel settings including no. of panels, panel locations, locations of various widgets on the panels and there should be option to customize and save as new theme)
12. Menu Themes (This will have various menu themes - kickoff / classic / lancelot / gnome style menu / mac style menu / win7 style menu and there should be option to customize and save as new theme)

There should be option to export current settings as GTK Theme (like QTCurve).

- This will allow to change complete KDE appearance at one click.
- This will make creating new themes for KDE very easy.
- This will make KDE appearance more flexible and highly configurable.
- This will give unified look and feel to KDE and GTK applications in KDE.
- By providing menu themes such as gnome style / win7 style / mac style, KDE can be easily configured to look exactly like gnome / win7 / mac.
- By just one click we can change KDE to look like Ubuntu / Mint / Opensuse / Fedora / Mandriva / KDE3 / Win7 / WinXP / Mac and thus making every user feel at home in KDE.
