Yes. Incremental backup is a wish list but basic requirement is backup. |

One options would be to have an automated way of, basically, just compressing and backing up one's ~/.kde folder.

But .kde folder has also some other things which are not related to settings. |

That's why I said "basically" and not "precisely". The problem is that it's difficult to determine where settings for a given application reside. One way of keeping track of this is to have it stored in a single config file somewhere and when new applications are installed they have to write to that file indicating where that program's configuration files are installed. A settings backup utility could make use of that information. Unfortunately this seems an unrealistic utopian wet daydream. I don't think backing up the entire .kde folder is too absurd, barring certain folders like mozilla cache and temporary folders. An exclusion class of folders wouldn't be too hard to conjure up that excludes possibly huge folders that don't contain settings information. |

I'm just wondering if there is a commercial equivalent of Mac Os Time Machine people would like to recommend to me that works nicely with KDE ?
Thanks in advance, |

One more vote for the saving of kde-settings! It would be just great, when reinstalling the system!

Another vote for this, including the back up of settings in Akonadi (imap accounts, google calendar accounts, etc.) and more. The ability to sync this in the cloud (even just to services like dropbox) would be tremendous, especially given how often linux-folk are likely to reinstall their systems from scratch!
