Currently it is possible to add annotations to okular, but not to save them directly to the pdf...

As a consequence, it is not possible to share the information added with other people, by sending the PDF, of printing it, or send it per fax....
It is exaclty what I need from my pdf viewer.

Because sometimes you get a pdf, a you just need to add a comment for someone else... Having only the ability to see the comments myself on mypc, is not enough.

There is a GSOC project about this.

Could you please be more specific? Okular 0.15.0 with KDE SC 4.9 does not save in the pdf (md5sum before and after commenting is identical). Do you possibly have a link to changelogs?

Thank you

mogliii: you need poppler 0.20 for this to work. Please see this thread.

Thank you. That must be it. I have 0.18 installed on my Kubuntu 12.04. Will try to get to 0.20.

I added a quantal repository (http://ubuntu-ashisuto.ubuntulinux.jp/ubuntu/ quantal main) and upgraded libpoppler-glib8 from 0.18.4 to 0.20.2, which also installed libpoppler26 (0.20.2) and upgraded some cairo packages.

But the annotations are not saved in the pdf, and I get a warning by okular that it won't be saved in the pdf.
When trying to remove libpoppler19 it also wants to uninstall a bunch of other programs (such as okular).

Can anyone give me a hint what I am missing?

the following is wrong
could be Okular must be a newer version or that it must be compiled with the newer poppler libs - just a guess. I tried up'ing the 5 "poppler" packages I had installed and it did not resolve it

the"poppler" packages I have installed libpoppler26 poppler-data libpoppler-glib8 poppler-tools libpoppler-qt4-4

@google01103

install the 0.20 poppler packages. they are in the opensuse kr49 repository. afterwards do an update of the kr49 repository.

I have openSUSE 12.1 with kr49 and saving annotations is working now.

@trebor, hmm that worked - for some reason I used a diff repo not realizing that kr49 had the 0.20 packages

thanks,

and it is bad: if you use the search line to find the subdivision where something is to discuss (in my case Okular, nothing to see in the forum index), you can not find out, where you are an can enter you new topic!

the only one way is to post into a founded discussion, as now, only to look in the forum index, where you new message did arrive :D
