All right, I'm finally getting everything back on track. I've set up my userbase account and have figured out the procedure for adding/modifying content. Look for content by Monday at the latest!

Not sure if I already told you this, but http://userbase.kde.org/PageLayout and http://userbase.kde.org/Toolbox should help you, at least speeding up sorting any syntax problems.

I went in and put up a screenshot and description just to try it out and already ran into some trouble. I want the text centered vertically alongside the screenshot and am not sure how to accomplish that; instead it's on the bottom:
http://userbase.kde.org/KWord/Manual#The_KWord_Handbook How do I fix that? I'm planning to start uploading actual content tomorrow. |

Hehe - two problems, one your fault and one mine You forgot the cell divider between the pictures and the text. Then it needed a 'style=' statement - and for some crazy reason I had missed putting that on the Toolbox page (probably a bad paste) - which I've now corrected. Thanks for pointing it out.

for now for my thesis work i was trying to find how to make an automatic indexing based on header like in open-office but i couldn't find. on the other hand i like the new way and ideas in kword in term of pic and drawings this is unique feature but still it lack many good things that a user want.
enable footer and header is not easy. it should be easier such as just clicking on the header part to be enabled. kword has a very strange and not friendly way of interact with the user in term of changing from mode to another when i want to write it has to be in write mode, if then want to manipulate my pic it will change this mechanism need to be enhanced since it is confusing and hard for users to change between modes, it is making me nerves after a 10 minutes of testing how about a 1- 2 hours of working. |

Why are those manuals on userbase and not on docs.kde.org? I understand that userbase is a wiki and I suppose docs.kde.org can only handle docbook?
Are the manuals going to be placed there? Currently, there's no documentation for kword: http://docs.kde.org/stable/en/koffice/ By the way, thanks to the people writing the handbook! |

The reason is quite simple - sheer lack of (wo)man-power. The KWord developers were the first to decide that if they put the manual on userbase it might spur people to help write the new one. Writing on a wiki is much easier than having to learn docbook.
The good news is that, as of this weekend, userbase has new tools that will make it easy for manuals written on userbase to be translated into docbook, so it will be possible to have on-line (userbase.kde.org), KDE Helpcentre, and distro-disk versions available from one writing.

Hi, everybody!
I think that the idea with a handbook is just brilliant! So, I have started contributing here: http://userbase.kde.org/KWord/Manual/IntroGUI If You have comments ideas - I would appreciate it much, as well as the contribution to this part |

As I promised earlier in this thread, I'm happy to work with all of you who will contribute. Building on zinchenko's efforts, I've started the Index page at http://userbase.kde.org/KWord/Manual. There are now two sub-pages - the original introduction to the idea of working with a frames-based word processor, and zinchenko's introduction to the GUI entities.
There are lots of ways this could be developed. I think many people would welcome some help in getting to grips with the many possibilities offered by the dockers, for instance. Maybe one group of tools could be dealt with on a single page? Another suggestion for you - why not use the Talk/Discussion icon on the KWord/Manual page, and start a thread with ideas for content and/or layout of content?
