I've looked at Kplato a few times, and I like what I see.
Currently, I'm taking a class on MS Project, and UI wise, Kplato knocks the socks off Project. However, Kplato cannot import (or do anything with) Project's .mpp files, which I have to use for the class. I also note that it can't import even GNOME Planner files, it can only handle .kplato files. I am wondering, are there future plans to do more with Kplato? How hard would it be to build an mpp importer? Or a Planner importer? I really want to use Kplato more, but I also don't want to reenter information by hand, and save it into a format that nothing else opens. |

At the moment KPlato can't import MS Project or Planner files yet and it's not planned for 2.2. I think it would be easier to build a planner importer as it seems to have the simpler fileformat. In case you have questions it would be best if you mail Dag Andersen who is maintainer of KPlato.

there is a python script in kde-files.org to import .kplato files in kspread, you can use it to save the information that you need in xls format then import back to ms project.
unfortunately the other way is impossible, you can't import from ms project to kplato, and keep in mind, kplato is mainly a one developer work, so be patient. best regards

KPlatoKPlato is KOffice’s project management application, very similar to Microsoft Project.Any user who has worked with a project management software will get used to KPlato’s interface and menus. Since project management has its common jargon such as “tasks”, “resources”, “paths”, these are embedded in the menus with the same names so you do not have to learn the program, except what is where. The interface is consistent with KOffice’s interface, the functions are accessible with one click. However, some important points are under development.

Can Kplato still import MS-Project's mpp or xml files?

KPlato could never -- and does not now -- import mpp or xml files from MS Project. That was the origin of this thread, though recent replies have gotten off topic.
