kplato and materials

Fri Nov 05, 2010 11:14 am
Hello!
i have a question on how to use materials in kplato which i tried to solve but didn't succeed !!

if I have to buy a material for my project which cost 100eur and take 20 days to arrive, how do i insert as a task that be part of the BCWS?

i tried as a startup cost with an account but for what i understood, seems that these startup and shutdown costs does not belong to the BCWS.

any ideas ??
thanks

KPlato does not include (atm) material cost and startup/shutdown cost in BCWS/BCWP/ACWP calulations, because they are very much tied to Work. So it is a question if material cost should be part of these calculations.
One situation they could be included, would be if you e.g. have a truck driver that needs a truck to do his task. Then possibly the cost for both driver and truck should be included.

(As you probably have guessed I myself have not included material cost in these calcs, it has never been an issue in the type of projects I have participated in.)

For the record BCWS and friends are not very well tested, as they are at the end of the food chain.

Hello Danders, i'm thinking you're doing a great job!!!! :)

Quite all of my experience is related to build complete industrial plants abroad.

I''m used to follow the project from the "ending sales" process to the commissioning of the plant.
When I receive the budget, it include both the work and the materials to be bought outside or produced inside the co.
So, my BCWS include all these parts.

My experience is that when you report to someone the situation, if you have a graph (like the one in Kplato) is it quite simple to explain or at least is self-explaining, otherwise you can produce many pages with different data but after a short look, your supervisor ask you "how's the things"........ :'( so, your report means something only for you!
That's why I was trying to insert as a material the "materials" to be part of the bcws.

I can understand that BCWS calculus could be not simple, as a material cost can be inserted at the beginning or at the end of the time that material will be available to be installed.
So, if you need some testing help, please do not hesitate to ask!

Ciao!

Yes, help with testing would be much apreciated!!
Could I ask you to enter a bug report for this?
I don't know if it is possible to get this in before next release (probably not), but let's see...
