kword 2.3 a real diappointment

Mon Jan 03, 2011 3:33 pm
I am trying the long awaited Kword 2.3 but:
how long we have to wait for a usable table system?
if I insert a table via the dock, everytime I click in a cell the mouse cursor returns to the previuos page
via the insert menu - table no way for change the double border line
changing a font results to me (OpenSuse 11.3 kde 4.5) in a crash, same way for the preview option...
The first look I had to kword was in 1999: perhaps the road chosen in its development is not the best.
I hope in 2.4.
Regards.

In Calligra Words I'm working hard to have a real usable table system, when we release in half a year.

As for your crashes I hope you have reported the bugs in bugzilla, because without bug reports(with traces) we have no way to solve bugs. We don't go looking through every post in the forums.

You guys (and not just you specifically) are just as responsible for getting this opensource eco system working!

Re: kword 2.3 a real dissapointment

Hey robyrom,

I'm sad to hear you think kword 2.3 dissapointment. But to be honest I have to agree with you.

The recent split of KOffice members (Casper boemann went away from KWord and now works on Words) was exactly about the chosen road in the development.
My experience with the 2.3 release so far is that we have more features, but the quality of all features went down. I am convinced that this is due to the way development is done.

Development can be done much better, and as the KWord maintainer my focus is on quality first and making the stuff that is there work properly. So please keep an eye on KWord in the future.
