I am using Abiword instead Kword now and I don't have any problem with it.

I'm also seeing this error on Kubuntu 11.04 and KOffice 2.3.3.

I am using Abiword without problems. I have the issue with the cursor still in KDE 4.6.3 (KWord 2.3.3) |

I can't believe there is no fix for this yet...? Or is there?

As far as I know this bug is fixed in KOffice master (in git) and has been for some time.
KOffice should be released with KDE 4.7, but some people in the kde release team are being overly political about it and won't let this important bugfix reach users just yet. Hang in there, we'll get the fixed version to users soon! In the mean time you can compile koffice from git if you want to live dangerously (see https://projects.kde.org/projects/koffice )

Thanks, Thomas, I'll be patient
The plot thickens though: I have one document open where the cursor works perfectly, and another where I can't select or move the cursor with the mouse, but I can't tell the difference in the settings between the two. Any clue? |

Thanks Thomas for your information. KDE 4.7 is planned for end of year, do we have to wait till then or could the bug fix be released before? With this bug I don't see how I will be able to use kword, shame about the politics that render a software unusable but I am in no position to comment as I am only new to KDE.

KDE 4.7 is planned for the end of July: http://techbase.kde.org/Schedules/KDE4/ ... e_Schedule
Note nothing forbids or blocks Thomas Zander to just release koffice on its own (like it has been released for years).

I was one of the people having this problem a while ago... I haven't used KWord much lately because of this issue but I just tried again and the problem seems to have disappeared.
I'm now using 2.3.3 (from Arch Linux package 2.3.3-5) on KDE 4.7 on an up to date Arch install. Because several of the dependencies have been updated since last time I tried I'm not sure what fixed the problem - could have been the newer KWord package (last one I tried was KWord 2.3.3-3 or 2.3.3-4) or the newer version of KDE or some other dependency that was updated since then. But it works for me now so I'm happy! |

I've had this problem for a long and and recently since I updated to the qt 4.7.4 libraries in Gentoo the problem in Kword seems to have gone away

Although the situation has improved it seems after a few pages the text can't be seen although it is still there, don't know what is causing this...
