Greeings. I've just built koffice from ports, and I have problem:
Wherever I click with left mouse button within KWord working area, the text cursor returns to the very first postion of document. Selecting with mouse doesn't work either, cursor just blinking at the beginning of the first line. Actually it's possible to move cursor with arrow keys and even selecting works, but cursor becomes invisible once I touch keyboard. Selected text with shift+arrow keys doesn't have any hilight, it's just looks like an ordinary text without any selection. There is no such problem in KSpread.

KDE 4.6.2
Code: Select all
$ pkg_info -xI koffice

I'm having the same problem here although I'm using an up to date package (koffice-kword 2.3.3-3) on Arch...

For info only - cannot reproduce for KDE 4.6.2, KOffice 2.3.3 (which is strange seeing that like othersimon I'm on Arch and use vanilla packages).

Hey all,
I tried to reproduce this issue and I can't in koffice master. I do remember one issue that was fixed in master that may be the cause of this problem so chances are its fixed in the development version.

Would anyone be able to test this issue with a self compiled koffice master (see https://projects.kde.org/projects/koffice) ?

I see this with the version in Debian testing too, but I use E16 as a Window manager and have not confirmed in Kwin. I'm glad to hear that the development version is fixed but would like to know if it has been tested outside of Kwin, in "broken" window managers like E16.

I've also noticed that rendering is slow with the 4.x series with Intel xorg.

@willhill
Your choice of window manager should have no effect on koffice applications and certainly not on something like this issue.
KOffice applications work fine on Gnome and Windows too, for instance.

Hope that helps.

I've used KWord now and again over the years but I'm just aghast at how unusable KWord is at the moment. My experience is the same as evil-hog's. The cursor will only flash at the top left - and it just goes back there after a few clicks. I am running the full KOffice suite installed via the gpk application - the package manager for GNOME. Had to uninstall OpenOffice as it continually froze - had issues with Fedora 14. KSpread seemed to work OK.

The layout also seems abnormal as a quarter of the screen on the right hand side is taken up by dialogue boxes.

Downloading AbiWord as we speak.

I've just upgraded to Kubuntu 11.04 and I'm having the same issues, plus I have some text hiding behind some kind of veil. I can delete preceding text and see it...

Same problem here, it is very annoying.

I use KWord 2.3.3 (Archlinux binary) and KDE 4.6.2

Opened up Abiword - only got to the third word before it froze. So I can't use Open Offoce, KWord nor Abiword. Noticing all the other posters who also have problems with wordprocessing programs, I'm wondering if it has something to do with the Linux kernel? Perhaps only my Fedora 14 is hosed. Will try the latest PCLinuxOS and hope for a better wordprocessing experience!!
