can't watch march madness

Wed Mar 20, 2013 2:19 pm
Anyone have any suggestions on how to get this to work? I am surprised that it isn't, since it seems to only be flash based. I have the proper flash installed of course. I have tried with Qupzilla (the best, for what it is worth =]), firefox, rekonq, chromium. No go for all of them. Chromium at least played the advertisement before it went to the error page. That is further than the others got.

There is, of course, no help (that I saw) on the ncaa website. Sigh. If only there was a way to combine my two favorite hobbies (kde and march madness).

The error message i get is quite self-explanatory:
"Live video is only available to viewers in the U.S., U.S. territories, and Bermuda."
(this assumes you are not from that region, like me)

Many of the US senders limit access to their livestreams to only their country. So it would be no software error

in earlier years, no idea about this year, Silverlight was a requirement fo high definition maybe now requirement for all?

per their tech page the app is Flash

I don't get any errors but the Select TV Provder button does nothing, maybe because those no game currently playing

Well, you had me hoping that the tv provider was the answer. I had not noticed that before. Unfortunately, adding this info did not help. For what it is worth, I could only fill that out in Firefox. I think maybe the other browsers were blocking the popup or something.

That is another thing that I have tried: removing popup blockers and adblock. This did not help.

As per the no games at this time, that should not be an issue since it allows you to watch full game replays. I sent an email to their support. I am not exactly hopeful though, as I of course mentioned that I use linux... Anyway, I will update when I get a response. Let me know if anyone gets better results in the meantime.

Hm... In the meantime, I installed firefox and the latest flash in wine. I am somewhat dissapointed to see that it worked just fine in wine. Would rather have a native solution, though.

that sounds more like something is wrong with your flash setup.
Compare the output of http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/ ... layer.html
Do they differ?

The only differences is that the firefox running under wine reads as version 11.6.602.180 running under xp, while firefox under linux (native) reads as version 11.2.202.275 running under linux. The march maddness website states that you need to be running flash version 10.2 or greater, so both should qualify. As it stands, I believe I have the last version that Adobe is supporting for Linux anyway.

I have checked this with two different machines that have two different distributions installed (kubuntu and fedora). Both of them give me the same results. I have also never had any problems with any other sites. In short, I do not believe that this is a local problem. They must simply be rejecting it somehow at the server side, possibly in a similar manner as netflix.

For what it's worth, I'm having the same problem in Firefox. Have you tried changing your user agent? After a quick googling I also found sites saying that they use Silverlight to stream the videos, don't know if it's true anymore (I suppose you didn't install it in Wine?).

No, didn't need it in wine. Just to check, I installed moonlight (opensource version of silverlight) on native firefox, but it makes no difference.

Your contributions are more than welcome! I have put in the credentials. It doesn't make a difference.

The ncaa support emailed me back, requiring me to submit my name, phone number. I haven't heard from them since then. I can't wait to see what they do with my phone number...
