We know that this has been undertaken multiple times, but nothing solid really came out of it. Work was started a few months back, but no news on that as well.

So, we have a petition, urging Mozilla to dedicate a little more of their development efforts to developing a Qt version of Firefox.

I hope I don't sound too pessimistic, but I never trusted "real" petitions, let alone those on the Internet. Simply put Mozilla has no interest in a Qt browser (after all, their main target platform is Windows - look at the recent EOL of Firefox 4, just 3 months after release, since 5 is out.

Personally I think Mozilla has bigger things to do than to port their flag ship to Qt. And even if they ported it, they would have to maintain and improve it too - that would mean double the manpower needed to maintain it, which is probably a waste of human resources that could be put elsewhere.

As much as I'd like to see a clean desktop (no cross libraries, KDE or Gnome alike) it is probably not doable in the real world in the near future, and even the benefits of it would be minimal to actual users that don't care that much as long as it works - which it does now.

But don't want to lower your enthusiasm, if you think it's the right way to go by all means, go for it and make it happen!

my firefox is looking great by default. I like it. What advantages will Qt offer?

Since Qt is cross-platform, wouldn't it actually save resources in the long run? They'd only have to support one toolkit. Doesn't Opera use Qt on all platforms?

My Firefox has always been very laggy on KDE (I'm always using not the greatest hardware). I guess using Qt in Firefox would very much improve the overall responsiveness of Firefox UI.

You're asking them to completely rewrite Firefox when there already at the top of their game. Better off making a browser using QT with the Gecko engine.

What do you mean? The Qt port of Firefox already exists, so I guess the topic just needs some more (official) love/development, that's it.

I wasn't aware. Just know Firefox now plays nice with *nix desktop environments then it did the last couple releases.
