Spellchecker in KDE4?!

Sat Nov 28, 2009 10:09 am
There is an annoying problem with KDE4 on my machine - it has no spell checker at all, even though I've installed a bunch of packages from both ispell and aspell! I found some links to "sonnet" as the new spell checking frontend, but have no clue to any really useful information about it. So what is going on with spell checking in KDE4?

Sonnet uses ASpell I believe, but you may need to restart applications for any new dictionaries, etc. to be loaded.

Well, ok, but how can I actually find/use it on KDE4.3? I've got nothing on "sonnet" in getnoo portage and its also not in $PATH and moreover option list of KDE system settings is empty... I have no clue at the moment...

Sonnet is part of KDELibs, in particular KDECore. It is a library for handling spelling, etc. for applications to use.

Aspell rejects "isn’t" in both British and American. Sonnet accepts "isn’t" in American. So it cannot be Aspell.
Sonnet uses Enchant, which is a proxy to whatever engine can be hired to do the task. The file %{_datadir}/enchant/enchant.ordering gives the ordering used, which is language-dependent.

In particular, the generic entry at my place is: *:myspell, aspell, ispell.
