Budget

Tue Dec 04, 2012 5:33 pm
I can't find any documentation for the Skrooge budget page. I don't really understand some of the terms Skrooge uses, so I can't tell if this feature can help me track spending vs. plan and income vs. expenses. Has anyone written a primer for this function that they'd be willing to share? I've done budgeting with a spreadsheet, so I get the concept in general, I'm just unclear about this implementation.

Thanks.

Indeed, the documentation is quite outdated, and hasn't been updated since the budget module was written. I will try to sit down with miraks and write some...

Any chance to make it quicker?... Or maybe just an article, blog post. I've just started with Skrooge and I want to understand this module... And alarms about it as well. Thanks for your work! I really appreciate it :)

Hello

Indeed I also have questions about budgeting... What is the "expected" forecasting method ? I see 3 (schedule, operation with date in future and budget), but not sure of the best method to use it.

forecasting with budget in reports is very interesting for estimating expenses on future months. But something is not what I expected : If an operation exist for a given month, the budget is ignored in profit of the operation.
Is'nt it possible to consider that, for future operations, if the operations'sum does not excceed the budget, then the amount of the budget is considered for forecasting, rather than operation's sum ?

Very Great Software Guys
Thanw again

Cheers

I'd also like to see some documentation for this. I've been using Skrooge for well over 4 years, and it's hands-down my favorite of all the personal finance applications available for Linux. While it's been immeasurably useful in helping me track my spending, I'd really like to start budgeting my money better. Hopefully Skrooge can help me out with this!

The write-up doesn't have to be thorough -- just a general idea of how to get started is enough. Once I understand the Budget feature a little bit better, I'd be willing to help the developers write the documentation for the handbook.

After some trial and error, I think I might be able to help a bit with writing some documentation for this. Implementing a budget manually seems to work similar to HomeBank's Budget feature. Automatic budgets, however, I still don't really understand. I've also tried implementing some rules on a few categories, but haven't figured out how they work.

What's the best way to submit a write-up?
