Problem with simon on Kubuntu 12.04

Thu May 24, 2012 8:00 pm
Hi!
Yes, i've already posted about a problem I got trying simon 0.3 this morning on my win7 64bit machine.
But to be honest, that was just the second test I made using simon, the first one was yesterday on my Kubuntu 12.04 laptop.
Ther I god different behaviors so I thought that perhaps since I'm here, I could get some help for that too.
The first try was on installing straight from ppa repository like the simon.listens site suggest.
that was non successful, because the last Kuubntu release don't use libattica0, but libattica0.3 and the package manager could not
find the right dependences.
No problem, I got the source release via GIT and build it... like a charm!
I just started simon, and all seem working good, except that when I try to open the settings or some other dialogs windows, I get only
emply windows with just the buttons on the lower side (If I recall right they are ok, cancel, default.. adn some others), but I can't see anything else in the
window.
Tomorrow morning I think I'll uninstall the home-compiled one, and will try to install via dpkg the deb package that I can download from the simon-listens sithe, but i'm really curious about this, if someone could help me...
Thanks again for the great effords!

EDIT: This morning I tryed again following the suggestion form the troubleshouting page from the wiki; http://www.cyber-byte.at/wiki/index.php ... leshooting (use kbuildsycoa4), but I keep getting empty settings dialog. To be more precise, I get the right configuration for simon, it is just the "configure acoustic models" dialog that is empty, with the ksimond configuration...

EDIT2: Just tried to install the dep package from the sourceforge repo... no luck there, I keep getting complains about missing dependences

Hi!

I think your KDE installation might not pick up the plugins installed by Simon. Did you use the build_ubuntu.sh script to build and install Simon?

Alternatively, for Simon 0.3: They appear to have renamed a dependency. If the development version builds and install it should be safe to just force the dependencies of the pre-built package (with dpkg --force-depends).

Best regards,
Peter

Thanks bedahr!
You was right... to be honest I compiled it by hand the usual cMake style, I didn't even noticed the build script specific for ubuntu!
Thanks again!
