Easy questions (I hope!).

Thu Dec 31, 2015 1:35 pm
I'm a Linux and Kexi newbie. I have installed Kexi 2.8.5 on Linux Mint KDE 17.2 and I am trying to convert a couple of small databases created in MS Access '97. Kexi has imported the 3 tables from one of these and I have created a form for one of the tables. Kexi looks good, but I currently have some questions I can't find answers to:

1. Using the form, I can only see one record at a time. Is there a way to show all the records so I can simply scroll through, as I can in Access?

2. The same question, really: 'Find' only shows one record at a time. I really need to have all the records listed that meet the search criteria, like the 'Filter' in Access. Is this possible?

3. The columns in the imported tables are in an illogical order. Is there a way of re-arranging them? If I make any changes to table design I seem to lose all the data!

4. Finally a very basic one: can I delete a record in Form view?

Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the valid points, dbowden!

Ad 1. "Continuous forms" are not yet here. Needs reporting at bugs.kde.org, could you please?

Ad 2. "Filters" are not yet here. Reported https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=277573

Ad 3. "Rearranging columns" is not yet here. Needs reporting at bugs.kde.org, could you please?

Ad 4. Yes: Ctrl+Del. And yes, the GUI should show this action too in a menu. Needs reporting at bugs.kde.org, could you please?

Everyone would like to very well know what features are superimportant to users and the best ways for this are explained here:

Many thanks for the reply. I will add my requests to the list. Kexi looks as though it will be very good when some of the wrinkles are ironed out! I'll keep an eye open for future releases.

The reason I'm trying to get things working in Kexi is mainly because the database I use most has hyperlinks in every record to local files. Kexi is the only Linux database I've found with hyperlink capability, and this does seem to work well, to the limited extent I have tried it out.

Good to see you use the hyperlinks, Dbowden!
We were aware this is useful addition.

Feel free to propose any additions and improvements.
J.
