Kmix Volume Level Not Equal to Alsamixer Level

Hi,
I've been having this strange problem (maybe feature) since removing pulseaudio. When I set the Master channel in Kmix to let's say 51% then Alsamixer shows 20 so the global volume is to low. I have to set the volume in kmix to at least 80 and then i got only few steps in kmix to get the maximum volume. I guess this is probably the logarithmic stuff discussed here:
Code: Select all
http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=95&t=42163&hilit=kmix+non+linear

But when used pulseaudio I get volume control in kmix nicely equal to the one in alsamixer and volume increments are precisely 5%. I tried to add "VolumePercentageStep=5" to the [Global] section in kmixrc but it often slips to 4% or 6% increments when used bare alsa without pulseaudio.
So is it possible to have sane volume control with bare alsa like it's done with pulseaudio? Thanks!
OS:Arch Linux x64
Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)
KDE: 4.9.4

Can you please make sure the correct device is selected for the Master channel? (you will probably see entries such as "PCM" and others as well).

I got always selected Master channel as a master volume in Kmix but it shouldn't matter since you can move sliders of other channels when opening Kmix mixer, or should it? Anyway right now i tried to run kmix from terminal and got this weird output:
Code: Select all
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.

Moving PCM slider never change volume for me. As a card in alsamixer is selected HDA Intel.
This is how my kmix setup look like: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/59/kmix.png
And alsamixer: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/209/alsamixer.png (Sorry, I couldn't use Img tags because of "It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image." error.)

That does appear to be the correct "Master" volume.

Just to ensure no Pulseaudio specific configuration is affecting your user, can you check under a new user?
(Forum img tags require direct access to the image itself, which Imageshack does not provide, except as thumbnails)

Nah, unfortunatelly the new user suffers from it too.

Unfortunately I suspect you have found a bug in KMix, so please file a bug report at bugs.kde.org.

Alright, let me wait 'til 4.9.5 hits the stable repo so I can check the problem is still actuall.

bcooksley: Ok, I looked through bugs.kde and found 2 similar reports:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=306512
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=86065
Since I want to avoid duplicating invalid bugs, I would just like to reassure myself your VolumePercentageStep is reliably applied on the Master channel when bare alsa without pulse is running and you can see the same volume level in both kmix and alsamixer. If you have pulse running I recommend relogin first since I suspect killing it doesn't make kmix being fully aware of it until the next user session. Thanks.

Unfortunately I was unable to produce a setup where Pulseaudio would not be launched. I'm reluctant to remove Pulseaudio at this time as it is quite important to the functionality of the Bluetooth audio devices I use (and which ALSA usually has issues with).

I would suggest going ahead and joining those bug reports / filing a new one.

Ok, posted a question to the logarithmic thread and filled a little buggy: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=314617
